'My Four Seasons in France - A Year of the Good Life' is the second book by Janine Marsh, editor of The Good Life France who writes about buying a dilapidated old house in northern France on a whim, almost by accident, and has ever since been making her tiny village in 'middle-of-nowhere-France' her home.
My Four Seasons in France
A Year of the Good Life starts with Janine and husband Mark in France on a wine buying trip with her father, when suddenly looking at homes for sale seemed a good idea, and then, buying the home her father declared as 'not fit to live in' even seemed like a good idea, so they did!

When I'm not in France myself, I am either dreaming of France or reading about France and this is the latest book on France I've read. And I loved it. Janine's wonderful and descriptive narrative brings the French countryside and everyday activities to life with antidotes of the ruddy-faced baker, the busy mayor, Madame Bernadette the experienced poultry keeper, whose advice on rescuing birds frozen in ice has real merit, and Claudette who's nearly ninety and still cooking on a wood fire stove.
Life in France with Janine Marsh
Janine writes about her menagerie of animals who all have names, distinct personalities and are the best cared for animals in the area. Taking a very English approach to her expanding brood of cats, ducks and geese and welcoming all new strays, she is now nicknamed the animal-mad British woman.
Reading about local festivals like Ducasse and regional cuisine such as Calvados and mussels will have you wanting to pack up and move to a tiny rural French village yourself.
Ever since peering out the kitchen window on the first house inspection and being 'hit by what the French call a coup de foudre (lightening bolt), or love at first sight', Janine has embraced her life in France, her quirky village and loveable neighbours and swears she would never give up her good life in rural Seven Valleys for a life back in London.
If you are looking for something to read while you are stuck at home, and unable to travel to France, then 'My Four Seasons in France' by Janine Marsh is the perfect book to entertain and transport you to the delightful northern corner of France that Janine and Mark have called home for the last fifteen years.
