Brest – A Beautiful City of France
Paris is often the first stop on a trip to France but with so many beautiful cities to explore the options are endless after that, and one of the cities we’ve enjoyed is Brest.
Living part time in Brittany, Brest has been a city that has offered a lot to us with our three younger children. Brest with its huge marina, aquarium, castle, bridges and parks is a fabulous place to visit, with or without children. If you are interested in history, this town has it in spades and the pivotal function it played in WWII makes it a must see town of France.
This is how I describe Brest –
Brest, the western port town with one of the most beautiful natural harbours in France, is a successful blend of the ancient and modern and its maritime theme makes it a favourite place for our family.
When Katy from Untold Morsels asked me for an expert opinion on a beautiful city of western France I thought immediately of Brest.
Here is my short article written for Untold Morsels –
Brest Is A Blend of the Ancient and Modern
Brest, the western port town with one of the most beautiful natural harbours in France, is a successful blend of the ancient and modern. Medieval Château de Brest houses the Musée de la Marine depicting 17 centuries of history and across River Penfeld, Tour Tanguy begs a visit.
Continuing with a marine theme Oceanopolis Aquarium and the International Maritime Festival held every four years with its tall ships, luxury boats and historical replicas shouldn’t be missed.
Admire art at the Musée des Beaux-Arts and search for marine treasures in the arty quarter before relaxing over a traditional Breton meal and glass of wine at the popular Bistro Globulle Rouge.
We also suggest heading inland to wander around the luscious Jardin du Convervatoire Botanique National de Brest. We are sure one trip to Brest will not be enough.
