It's All Happening in November - New wine, birthdays & an auction
Hello, Bonjour!
This weekend my nearby town of Quintin is holding its toe-tapping, dancing annual Street Singers Festival. This year 20 artists and groups will fill the streets with music as they pop up and move around the town’s streets. Every year there’s big street parades. This year there are three big ones planned, and the costume period for the event is the 1930s.
The festival is fantastic fun with hot food stalls selling crêpes, roasted nuts, frites (hot chips), saucisses (sausages) and local produce. I find the scent of roasting nuts and artisan sausages sizzling on hot plates fills the cold crisp air making my mouth water. On other years I’ve attended the festival, I usually find my favourite one or two performers and follow them around a bit as they set up and perform in different areas of the small town. You can expect guitars, singers, accordions and at night there’s large concerts to attend.
My sons are adults now, but for the younger kids there is a small animal farm where you can pet and touch the animals. Traditional crafts like butter making and wood turning are displayed and always interesting to watch. It’s a great festival with loads of music and dancing and of course, dancing is open to everyone to join in. You can put your Breton dancing skills to use!
This weekend read about the new wine festival, the Beaujolais Nouveau, which falls on the 3rd Thursday of November and is celebrated across France and the world.
The grandest of wine festivals in the Côte-d'Or, the Vente aux Enchères des Vins des Hospices de Beaune - which raises money for charity - a rather good reason to get involved.
And we visit Claude Monet’s house and garden for his birthday on the 14th of November.
Wishing you a fun filled weekend and new week.
