Bon weekend
Yesterday was the anniversary of the first day the Louvre Museum opened to the public as a museum. It was on 10 August 1793 that the former fortress and palace opened as an art museum. It’s now the worlds’ most visited museum containing approximately half a million catalogued objects. Of this incredible number, a whopping 35,000 works of art are on display.
The iconic glass pyramid entrance is much younger than the fortress, turned palace, turned museum, and is now loved by people the world over. The glass pyramid was first seen by the public and opened on 29 March 1989 so this date is celebrated as its anniversary. I wrote an article about the pyramid that includes a video of how they clean the glass. I was amazed watching the process early one morning on my walk around the museum forecourt.
Later this week will be the birth date of Napoleon Bonaparte, so I’ve included some reading about this revered French leader for you. There’s a bunch of fun, and a few weird, facts about the Emperor that you may not know.
So, grab your croissant and coffee and join me in France with these great posts.
