Newsletter #108 - Chimney on Fire, Sunny French Riviera & Street Art
Yay, it’s the weekend and I have to start off with Wow! Did you watch the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics? The promise of making the games and especially the opening ceremony open to more people than ever before, really meant the location along the Seine made the night a different and very original extravaganza.
Featuring so many iconic buildings, events in history, traditions, fashion, art and music, and of course the omnipresent Eiffel Tower for the crescendo, was spectacular. But, of course the games is about the athletes and so, it has only just begun and the focus is now 100% on the athletes and their quest for excellence in their athletic field. We are wishing every athlete a memorable games.
This past week I traveled to Pont-Aven, a commune in the Finistère department in Brittany, known the world over for being the home of the Pont-Aven School and the painters who made it famous: Gauguin, Émile Bernard, Paul Sérusier, Charles Filiger, Maxime Maufra, Henry Moret and others.
The “Pont-Aven School” is considered to be the foundation of modern art and it felt rather surreal to be walking in Le Bois d’Amour, along the port with the remains of the old mills featured in paintings, and to wander the town centre. More on this beautiful town to come in a post for sure!
Lorient was also visited and Belle-Île, the main island in the Ponant group and the largest in Brittany. The drizzle did not dampen the morning (well maybe just a bit), but the buzz of excited visitors on the ferry and the vibrant Le Palais port was something else! In its height of busyness, being summer, the island was pumping with activity. It was a great adventure.
I found the most wonderful things to see and do and also learnt a few big no-no’s from these excursions which I’ll share with you in future posts, so hopefully your experience may go a little smoother than mine. But for now, grab your croissants and coffee and venture to France with me where today the sun is shining ☀️
Bisous, Annette
