Bonjour from Quimper and Happy Bastille Day!
Well, it’s only one sleep till Fête Nationale Française, also called Bastille Day, and it’s going to be fabulous to be here again on ‘14th juillet’. Tomorrow I’ll be driving from Quimper (where I’m staying tonight) to Mûr-de-Bretagne to join my friends for the morning before we head out to a crêperie to celebrate Bastille Day (as it’s called in Australia). I’ll then drive to Quintin to continue on with the French festivities.
The town of Quintin (where I did a live Facebook post yesterday) always puts on an awesome Fête Nationale party and fireworks display around the lake. Quintin should reach 22° at around 5pm, but it will get cold as the night draws closer to the midnight fireworks display. I’m prepared with my beanie, jacket and thick socks in my overnight bag. One Fête Nationale Française while waiting for the fireworks at Quintin, the kids and I rugged up with thermal underwear, jeans, jumpers, gloves, scarfs and overcoats. Yep, in summer!
This last week has been a week of DIY projects, with occasional day trips sourcing hardware materials and essential time on the laptop. Eventually cabin fever gripped me with the seemingly endless days of drizzle and hours hunched over the laptop, so I grabbed the car keys and took myself off for a drive.
It was just what I needed. The sun peeped out for a bit, rolling pastures and green trees looked fresh after the rain and then I stopped and watched the most gorgeous cows munching away while they gave me the ‘side-eye’ as I photographed them.
Then a wander around Quintin and a surprise visit to Château et Domaine de Quintin. Still family owned and occupied, I was fortunate enough to be able to wander the parkland and formal gardens before taking a guided tour of the interior.
