A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Paris
When I first visited this day-dreamy place I had the salon to myself and couldn't believe that just metres away tourists were admiring the ultimate Parisian square, Place Vendrôme, chauffeurs were busy delivering their guests to Hôtel Ritz and serious shoppers were making their way into the flagship stores of Louis Vuitton, Chaumet and Cartier.
There's even original historical items of Queen Marie Antoinette that you can get up close to including, a letter penned by her hand, and a marble bust sculpted by Felix Lecomte.
History of Nina's at Place Vendrôme
The tea house was founded in Paris by Pierre Diaz, "La Distillerie Frères" who was the first perfumer to distal lavender and rose essences for use in perfuming gloves at the time. The company specialised in perfumes and essential oils and was renowned for its skill in blending fragrances.
Pierre Diaz became known as the Magicien des Arômes (Wizard of Aromas) and was the preferred supplier of the Versailles court at the time of Louise XIV and later for Marie Antoinette.
The current salon's name is a nod to Nina Diaz, who created the famed "Ninasette" cake which was first served to her beloved Queen Marie Antoinette in 1778. The recipe has been handed down exclusively to woman in the Diaz family for centuries and I must say, this is just something else that makes an afternoon tea experience so special.
L'Original Marie Antoinette is a very delicate tea flavoured with apples and roses, which gains strength from the Ceylon black base and in my opinion is seriously delicious.
Gifts and Deluxe Items at Nina's Marie Antoinette Tea Salon
You can also purchase tea to take home and the very pretty tins are just like 'icing on the cake'. Being the only official partner that makes products from the fruit and roses from the King's Kitchen Garden of Château Versailles, I love that you're drinking the tea of kings and queens when you sip this aromatic tea.
The salon also sells the most divine soaps, little handbags, chocolates and tea drinking items along with their range of deluxe loose leaf teas.
Whether Marie Antoinette ever said "Let them eat cake" or not, I think you should definitely drink the tea of Kings and Queens and eat "Ninasette" cake at Nina's when in Paris!
